Meiji Hello Panda Biscuits in Chocolate - Review

Meiji Hello Panda Biscuits in Chocolate review

A month or so ago I reviewed Hello Panda biscuits in the flavour Milk Cream. Well I finally got around to picking up the Chocolate version.
If you are interested, here is my review for the Milk Cream flavour.

Different packaging of Meiji Hello Panda Biscuits in Chocolate

Just after, whilst on my travels (a random visit to Home Bargains) I spotted these smaller boxes of Hello Panda. They are 29p each or 4 for £1, which is an amazing price. Now, the boxes are smaller (25g as opposed to 50g) but weight for weight, they are still cheaper. (£1 for 100g from Home Bargains compared with £1 for 50g from my local Asian supermarket.) However, it did cross my mind that they may not taste identical, so I bought some to include a comparison in my review.

Inner foil packaging of Meiji Hello Panda Biscuits in Chocolate

Hello Panda are packaged in a foil wrap to keep them fresh. Note the size difference between the bags. There were 18 biscuits in the big bag and 9 in both small bags.

A 50g serving, (the contents of the large box) contains 272 calories. This is comprised of 15.3g of fat (8.1g of which are saturates), 29.9g carbohydrates (14.9g of which are sugars), 3.6g protein and 0.1g salt.

The ingredients are; wheat flour, vegetable oil (palm oil), sugar, seasoning (maltodextrin, hydrolysed vegetable protein, yoghurt powder (dextrin, skim milk powder), flavour enhancers (e627, e631), leavening agents (e503, e500, salt, emulsifier (e473), malt extract (barley), yeast powder, natural colour (e150a), cocoa mass, whole milk powder, emulsifier (soya lecithin), artificial vanilla and chocolate flavourings. Allergens in bold.

Individual Meiji Hello Panda Biscuit in Chocolate biscuits

My favourite thing about Hello Panda biscuits are that each biscuit includes a picture of a panda playing a sport. My box of Milk Cream biscuits only had six different sports included so I was hoping I would get more of a variety this time.

Here you can see the yummy chocolate filling. Mmm, chocolate.

The ingredients are seemingly identical between the two types of box. I couldn't detect any difference in taste.

As you can see, I had more of a variety this time. Out of 36 biscuits, I had 20 different sports! :-)

Here are my guesses for the sports. :) What are yours?

From right to left;
First row; table tennis, skiing, volleyball, kayaking, skateboarding
Second row; basketball, fencing, golf, weightlifting, judo
Third row; tennis, rollerskating, badminton, football, windsurfing
Fourth row; gymnastics, archery, baseball, running, boxing

The Review
Again, I really like these. I liked these just a little more than the Milk Cream flavour, but I am a self-confessed chocoholic. The chocolate filling is sweet but not too sweet. Hello Panda biscuits are inoffensive enough flavour wise that they would make a great novelty gift. Next on my to-try list is the Strawberry flavour! :)

The Rating
8.5/10
