Glico Pocky Chocolate - Review

Glico Pocky Chocolate review

Pocky, probably Japan's most popular sweet snack. It is produced by Glico, a confectionery firm located in Osaka, Japan.
Pocky was first sold in 1966 and has evidently stood the test of time. Pocky is a biscuit stick coated in a flavoured cream. It is available in a plethora of flavours, including chocolate, strawberry, almond, blueberry, caramel, banana, amongst others. The flavour of which I will be reviewing today, Chocolate, is the original flavour.

Outer packaging of Glico Pocky Chocolate

Pocky is usually packaged within a rectangular cardboard box in a foil wrap to keep the contents fresh. You can't see it here but the word 'Pocky' has a subtle metallic effect, which gives the product a slightly more luxe feel.

Glico Pocky Chocolate biscuits

Mmm, delicious Chocolate Pocky. Upon opening the packet, I am hit with the aroma of dark chocolate.

Glico Pocky Chocolate biscuits

I found each packet to include 17 Pocky, weighing in at 36g, containing 181 calories or 11 per Pocky. The ingredients are; wheat flour, sugar, cocoa mass, vegetable fat, powdered whole milk, shortening, malt extract, starch, salt, yeast, cocoa butter, butter, emulsifier, essence, leavening agent, annatto colouring, seasoning (mineral salt), soya bean. Allergens in bold.

Each Pocky stick is approximately 14cm in length. One end has no chocolate for mess-free snacking.

The Review
As illustrated above, Pocky have a nice snap to them. Pocky are named so because of the noise they make when broken in half. They taste, not surprisingly, of biscuit and dark chocolate. The chocolate flavour is by no means overpowering, so still appealing to anyone who is not a huge dark chocolate lover. For me, there's not quite enough chocolate but this does make them a nice, light snack. All in all, Pocky Chocolate are very nice and I would definitely purchase them again. I would be interested in trying some different flavours.

The Rating
8/10
